In Northern Utah, the foundation worked with the Utah Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors to donate 1,000 pounds of protein to the Cache Community Food Pantry. An additional 1,000 pounds was donated to the Utah State University Student Nutrition Access Center (SNAC). The need for nutritious, high-quality food is particularly strong on college campuses. According to the SNAC website, 62% of students on campus experience low or very low food security. SNAC Program Director Jonathon Walters said the donation of beef will go a long way toward helping students. “During peak times of the year, we serve nearly 1,000 students each week,” he said. “This kind of donation allows us to keep an important protein source in stock and ensure that students have access to nutritious food.”
With rising costs and inflation, families and individuals are continuing to struggle with food insecurity. In response, the Miracle of Agriculture Foundation and Utah Farm Bureau hosted a ‘Miracle Project’ on Friday, July 8, 2022, at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy, Utah. This event provided food donations to approximately 400 families in Sandy and the surrounding area. Donations included beef, pork, milk, cheese, potatoes, and other seasonal produce. In keeping with previous ‘Miracle Projects,’ those receiving food stayed in vehicles and had food placed inside their vehicles. With rising consumer costs and pressure on affordable housing, families and individuals were continuing to struggle with food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, the Miracle of Agriculture Foundation hosted another ‘Miracle Project’ and delivery of food on Wednesday, July 28th 2021, in West Valley City. In keeping with previous ‘Miracle Projects’, those receiving food stayed in vehicles and had food placed inside. The event provided direct food donations to approximately 1,500 families in West Valley and took place in the parking lot of Granger High School. The donations included beef, milk, cheese, potatoes, eggs, sweet corn, and other seasonal produce.
As the impacts of the current health pandemic continued to be felt throughout the state in 2020, The Miracle of Agriculture Foundation held it’s third event for farmers and families: Miracle Project West Salt Lake, the last week of July. Blistering afternoon heat gave way to wind and a few showers, but that did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of volunteers as they prepared food for more than 1,200 vehicles that came through the Utah State Fairpark. Many came just minutes after hearing announcements on radio and television about the available food. The North and South Box Elder County Farm Bureaus recently partnered with Utah Farm Bureau’s Miracle of Agriculture Foundation to donate pork to their local community. Over 150 lbs. of meat were donated between the Tremonton Food Bank, the Box Elder Community Food Pantry, and Acts 6 Soup Kitchen. Jeff Kent, president of the North Box Elder County Farm Bureau, described this as a full-circle moment for him, as the idea for the donation first took shape last summer. Few people are more passionate about feeding the world than farmers and ranchers. So, when farm and ranch families gathered at the annual American Farm Bureau Federation Convention in Salt Lake City in January 2024 to assemble food boxes to be donated to those facing food insecurity, it was no surprise that they showed up in full force. The original goal was to fill two semi-trucks.
